Microphone level and quality test

Select an input and speak normally to inspect level, peak, clipping, waveform, spectrum and negotiated audio settings. Live analysis does not record audio; you can optionally create one three-second in-memory sample for immediate playback.

Live audio is analyzed only in this device's memory. An optional three-second sample stays in a temporary local Blob, is never uploaded, and is discarded when replaced, stopped or when you leave the page.

How to test

  1. Select Start microphone test and approve access.
  2. Speak at your normal distance and volume.
  3. Check peaks, clipping and noise floor, or record one temporary three-second sample to hear yourself back.

What it checks

  • Live RMS and peak dBFS
  • Waveform and frequency spectrum
  • Scrolling spectrogram
  • Clipping and noise-floor detection
  • Optional three-second local playback
  • Sample-rate and channel settings

Frequently asked questions

Does this microphone test record me?

The live meter does not record. Only when you choose Record 3 seconds does the browser create one temporary local sample for playback; it is not uploaded or kept after replacement, stop or navigation.

Why is dBFS a negative number?

0 dBFS is the digital ceiling, so normal signals are shown below it as negative values. A reading of -32.5 dBFS is a quiet signal, while values approaching 0 dBFS are much louder and may clip.
